He reads it immediately but doesnât respond. I donât think too much of it. Judging by his pictures, heâs at work and probably got caught up with something. I put my phone down on the couch next to me, letting the stories of people being stalked lull me to sleep.
I WAKE TO THE sound of the doorbell before my phone starts ringing next to me. Coltonâs name flashes on the screen. I sit up, rubbing my eyes with the back of my hands before answering.
âHello?â
He chuckles. âAre you going to let me in?â
Shit, the doorbell. âOh. Thatâs you?â
âYeah. Unlock the door.â
The two of us hang up the phone and I let my bare feet pad across the hardwood floor. As soon as I open the front door, I find Colton standing there, holding a bag from the pharmacy. He smiles warmly at me and steps inside.
âI brought the necessities.â
My eyebrows furrow as I follow him into the kitchen. âNecessities?â
âYeah. Tylenol, Gatorade, Crackers, the whole deal. I wasnât sure what you already had so I just grabbed it all.â
Seriously, any time I feel like he canât possibly be any cuter, he proves me wrong. Everything heâs been doing lately has made me swoon like a teenager with her first crush. Well, letâs be real for a minute â he was my first crush.
I watch him unload everything from the bag and put it all away before turning to me. The way heâs standing so close almost has me stepping back. Parker is always too afraid to get sick himself, so whenever I come down with something he tries to stay as far from me as possible. He glances me over, frowning when he sees how tired I look.
âCrap. I woke you up, didnât I?â
âNo.â I lie. He gives me a knowing look. âOkay, yes, but Iâm glad you did.â
âIâm not. You need your rest.â He raises his hand and places the back of it against my forehead. âHave you had a fever?â
âI donât think so. Just nausea.â
âSo, kissing you thenâ¦â
I cringe. âProbably a bad idea.â
He presses his lips to my forehead. âThanks for the heads up. Now, back to bed for you.â
âI wasnât in bed. I was on the couch.â
âOkay, smart ass. Back to the couch then.â
I murmur a string of playful obscenities as I make my way into the living room. Colton stays behind to pour me a glass of Gatorade and then comes to join me. I thank him and take a sip of the drink. Itâs so much better than water when you feel so drained. An involuntary moan leaves my mouth at the taste of it and I notice the way Colton squirms in the seat next to me.
âDonât get any ideas, Casanova.â
âIdeas? What ideas?â He mocks.
âIâm sick. There is no way in hell Iâm going to get you sick too. You should probably move over a seat.â
He gets up to move but only ends up closer. I glare at him even though it has no affect.
